Meet our Animals - Eastern Water Dragon

Physignathus lesueurii lesueurii or Eastern Water Dragon lives from Victoria all the way up to Northern Queensland. These dragons are fast moving and will dive into the water when threatened by a hiker or person walking past them. It's reported they can hold their breath under water for a considerable time up to 30 mins. They are mainly insectivorous when juveniles and eat vegetation when a bit older. They live for a long time up to 25+ yrs and have a clutch of eggs from 6-12. Incubation of eggs at 29-31c will hatch around 56-64days roughly.
