National science week 2009...

21st August 2009 the CSIRO Discovery centre was host to the national science week spectacular!!
as part of that display Reptiles inc held a reptile emporium! following are some of the photos of our display....

More than Reptiles there were MONKEYS!!

And Orangutans !!

Otherwise known as volunteers :)

And then there were the reptiles like "Komodo", who is actually an Australian Perentie (Varanus Giganteus).
And the unveiling of his new 12 foot mobile enclosure.

COMING SOON - you will be able to click here and learn all about the PERENTIE (Varanus Giganteus)..

The reptile patting area was a big hit as usual.

The blackheaded pythons were really on the move creating a very interesting attraction.

COMING SOON - you will be able to click here and learn all about the BLACKHEADED PYTHONS (Aspidites melanocephalus)

Even though one of the black heads was in a very , very bad mood!

The diamond pythons were spectacularly lazy...

COMING SOON - you will be able to click here and learn all about the DIAMOND PYTHON (Morelia spilota spilota).

Although "shoelace" the hatchling diamond python was making up for the adults by being very much on the go.

During the 3 day event Peter held up to 3 talks each day and the turn out for each was huge...

...again and again.

This can only be good as the whole point to these events is to expose people to these misunderstood animals and educate them on what makes them so unique, and worth saving.

In the spirit of our aims this was the first event for the unveiling of our new animal profile banners,

Minus a few spelling mistakes, they were very successful... well the animals thought so :)

COMING SOON - you will be able to click here and learn all about the Frilled Dragon (Chlamydosaurus kingii).

There were many really cool events and interesting exhibitors at the discovery centre event, but the one other event that related to us the most was the National Zoo and aquarium display in which they were displaying a boa (python) and alligator...During the event Peter even got to compare the two, "FRESH WATER CROC V'S ALLIGATOR!!!".

I think people felt the alligator had it over the croc... but thats just because the handler was better looking!! Sorry Pete but you know its true:)

Probably the most special thing about the entire event was to see all of the Helix club Kids and have them work with us as volunteers. They were all so eager to learn and did a fantastic job making the weekend a much more enjoyable event for us to participate in.

Thank you to all of you.

But wait there is more.......to come:)
